- Q3 guidance is $885-$895M in revenue, down 2-3% year on year.
Match Group (MTCH) is widening its real-world Tinder push. In its Q2 2026 results, published on 4 August, the company said Tinder Events expanded into nine additional U.S. and European cities, with plans to reach 26 cities worldwide by the end of September.
The rollout arrived in a quarter where the top line slipped and the bottom line improved. Revenue was $853M, down 1% from $864M a year earlier, while net income rose 36% to $171M, according to the company's release.
The DII Take
Events is a sensible answer to a real problem: Tinder has to give younger members a reason to open the app that is not another swipe. The early engagement figure is strong, but it measures curiosity, not payment. Until Match shows Events moving payers or revenue, the profit gain cannot be credited to the product push.
Profit up, payers down
The earnings mix is familiar. Payers fell 6% to 13.3 million while revenue per payer rose 6% to $21.13, per Match. Adjusted EBITDA was $331M, up 14%, at a 39% margin against 34% a year earlier.
There were brighter spots. Match said Tinder's year-on-year DAU declines eased to 4%, and Hinge revenue grew 22%. The company's Q3 guidance of $885-$895M implies revenue down 2-3%. Reuters reported that the guidance midpoint sits below the $891.5M analyst estimate from LSEG; DII has not been able to verify the full report.
Rival Bumble (BMBL) reported a steeper drop in the same period: revenue down 15.2% to $210.5M, and paying users down 16.4% to 3.2 million.
What Events has to prove
Match said Events began as a Los Angeles pilot in March, and that more than 60 events had brought Tinder members together since. In that pilot, 71% of eligible active Tinder users aged 18-24 engaged with the in-app Events tab, per the company. DII has covered the London plans separately.
Tinder Events expanded into nine additional U.S. and European cities, with plans to reach 26 cities worldwide by the end of September.
Reuters reported that the CFO said Events currently targets user growth rather than direct revenue, and should become a revenue driver by 2027 and beyond. Investing.com's summary of a Citi conference appearance cites a 75-city year-end target and paid events averaging about $30. Those are secondary-source figures, not from a Match filing.
Match reports Q3 results on 2 November after the US market close. Watch whether the city count and the 75-city target are confirmed there.
- Match Group's Q2 profit gain came with 1% lower revenue and 6% fewer payers, so Tinder Events still has to prove it can lift revenue.
- Match Group's Q3 results on 2 November are the first check on whether the 26-city Events target was met.
