Tinder ran a free, three-day game-centre pop-up called SwipeCenter at ZeroBase Shibuya in Tokyo from 18 to 20 September, according to a press release from Tinder's Japan newsroom dated 2 September. Campaign Brief Asia, in a 7 October write-up, credits Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo as the creative partner. The centrepiece was an original dating-style game. Extra coins were earned through the app, and prizes led to experiences beyond the venue.
Tinder's own release does not name the agency. The agency credit, the "Live a Little?" campaign line and the three-floor venue detail come from the trade report.
The DII Take
This is a smart piece of brand theatre: a gacha machine is a more native Shibuya language than a banner ad. But the app link is thin. A coin for downloading Tinder is a download incentive, not proof that anyone stayed. Without attendance or conversion figures, SwipeCenter is a campaign, not yet evidence.
How the game and the app link worked
Tinder's release describes four attractions. "Tinder Match Maker" is free to play: players answer questions and play swipe-based mini-games set in a cafe, a park, a summer festival and a rooftop terrace. Campaign Brief Asia calls it a role-playing game. The others, a swipe-style purikura booth, a crane game and a capsule-toy machine, cost one coin each.
Visitors could earn more coins by downloading the Tinder app, registering a profile and using the app. Tinder's release lists gacha prizes outside the venue, including a private aquarium dinner, a planetarium viewing and a head spa session. Campaign Brief Asia lists a Michelin-starred dinner and a JTB travel voucher, which do not appear in Tinder's release.

Max Pilwat, Group Creative Director at Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo, told Campaign Brief Asia: 'The idea was to take the Tinder experience out of the phone and put it into the real world.'
What to watch
Match Group (MTCH) reported on 4 August that Tinder daily active users fell 4% year on year in the second quarter, which it called the best result in 10 quarters. CEO Spencer Rascoff said the next step is winning back lapsed singles and reaching people who have never tried Tinder, adding: 'In-person Events, now live in the U.S. and Europe, are an important part of that strategy'. Tinder's Japan newsroom also lists Shibuya pop-ups in July and August, so SwipeCenter is part of a run, not a one-off. Rascoff has framed the Tinder fix as culture. The test is whether Tinder ever shows Japanese results.
- Tinder's SwipeCenter in Shibuya links physical play to app sign-up through coins, but Tinder has published no attendance or conversion data.
- Tinder has run repeated Shibuya pop-ups in 2026, according to its Japan newsroom, so offline activations look like a sustained tactic.
