• Spencer Rascoff told NBIM's "In Good Company" podcast, published 14 October 2026, that Tinder's turnaround is people- and culture-led.
  • BigGo Finance reports Tinder employee engagement rose 17 points in a year and Events runs in 25 cities, targeting 75 or more by end-2026.
  • Match Group's Q2 2026 revenue was $853M, down 1%, with payers down 6% to 13.3M.
  • Rascoff promised real-time recommendations by the end of 2026, according to BigGo.

Match Group (MTCH) CEO Spencer Rascoff has said Tinder's problem was company culture rather than the recommendation algorithm. On Norges Bank Investment Management's "In Good Company" podcast, hosted by NBIM CEO Nicolai Tangen, he described the turnaround as led by people and culture, according to BigGo Finance's summary of the episode.

DII has not heard the audio, and NBIM's episode page carries no transcript or figures, so every interview figure below comes from secondary summaries. Scuttlebutt quotes Rascoff describing a company 'run too much by Wall Street for Wall Street'.

The DII Take

The diagnosis is plausible, but the figures Rascoff cited are engagement and adoption measures, not revenue, and they have not been checked against the audio. Match guided Q3 revenue to $885M to $895M, down 2% to 3% year on year. A culture story has to show up in payers eventually.

What Rascoff says he changed

BigGo reports a roughly 100-day listening tour, visits to all 12 global offices and a product roadmap cleared so teams started from scratch. Rascoff said Tinder employee engagement rose 17 points in a year, and BigGo says the company hired 30 college interns in summer 2026.

On product, he said about 25% of US Gen Z Tinder members use Double Date, against 53% of female Gen Z members in Norway, per BigGo. He also said merging recommendation queues improved matches and chats, though matching is not yet real time.

Match's own Q2 numbers sit awkwardly beside the optimism. The company reported total revenue of $853 million, 1% lower year on year and 2% lower on an FX-neutral basis. Match said payers fell 6% to 13.3 million, while revenue per payer rose 6% to $21.13. Tinder's year-on-year daily active user decline narrowed to 4% in Q2, which the company called the best result in 10 quarters.

A culture story has to show up in payers eventually.

Monetisation and what to watch

Rascoff does not expect high-priced matchmaking tiers to become a large business, BigGo says. He argued that free members are the liquidity pool, so the likelier route is a better free product that lifts payer retention.

Rival Bumble (BMBL) reported Q2 revenue down 15.2% to $210.5M, and agreed a sale to Ithaca Holdings (covered here). Watch for Tinder's real-time recommendations and whether Events reaches 75 cities by year-end.

  • Match Group's Rascoff is framing Tinder's recovery around engagement and culture, but Q3 revenue guidance of $885M to $895M still points to a year-on-year decline.
  • Tinder's end-2026 commitments, real-time recommendations and Events in 75 or more cities, give investors dated tests to check.
  • Figures from the interview come from secondary summaries and have not been checked against the audio.
