- ThePrint reported on 30 October that Muzz has launched its first outdoor campaign in Mumbai, with billboards and bus-stop ads.
- A Muzz press release says a social media campaign is running across India alongside the Mumbai outdoor work.
- Muzz cites 20 million users and more than 800,000 marriages globally; no spend, site count or agency was disclosed.
ThePrint reported on 30 October that Muzz, the Muslim marriage app, has put up billboards and bus-stop ads around Mumbai in its first outdoor advertising push in the city. A Muzz press release dated the same day says a new social media campaign is running across India alongside the Mumbai outdoor work.
The creative leans on Bollywood. According to ThePrint, one ad plays on Salman Khan's bachelor image, another rewrites a Gangs of Wasseypur line by crossing out 'Faizal' and inserting 'Muzz', and a third mocks swiping and says 'Get married the halal way. Download Muzz.' The central line, per the release, is 'Single rehna Salman Bhai par jachta hai, aap par nahi'.
The DII Take
This is a sensible creative bet: humour and film references travel further on a Mumbai bus shelter than a feature list does. But a billboard is a brand bill, and Muzz has disclosed nothing about spend or reach. Compare Hinge, whose India ambitions we have covered: Muzz is chasing a narrower, faith-defined audience, which makes the targeting question sharper, not easier.
A market Muzz has struggled to crack
Shahzad Younas, Muzz's founder and CEO, said in the release: 'With this campaign, we wanted to use humour and a familiar cultural reference to start a conversation that people can relate to.' Online Personals Watch, citing a Muzz LinkedIn post, says Muzz entered India about 18 months ago and calls the outdoor push a shift beyond digital marketing. Another outlet, The Plunge Daily, dated an official India launch to 22 April 2026, so the timeline is not settled.
Rest of World reported in 2023 that Muzz had found it hard to match its international success in India. At the time the company claimed over 230,000 Indian users and over 2,000 marriages there.
Muzz has used billboards in other markets, including humorous ads in Houston and a Pakistan campaign with the line 'Cousins ko choro, koi aur dhoondo'.
Muzz has used billboards in other markets, including humorous ads in Houston and a Pakistan campaign with the line 'Cousins ko choro, koi aur dhoondo', according to Online Personals Watch. The 'first' applies to Mumbai only.
What to watch
A LinkedIn post by a Muzz staff member calls the campaign 'just the start' of more plans for India. Seedtable's parse of Companies House data, marked indicative, shows turnover of £22.1M and an operating loss of £793K for the year to 31 January 2025. Accounts for the following year are due by 31 October 2026.
- Muzz is taking its India marketing beyond digital into outdoor advertising, but has not disclosed spend, number of sites or campaign dates.
- Watch Muzz's year to January 2026 accounts, due at Companies House by 31 October 2026, for how investment tracks against the earlier £793K operating loss.
