About Hakuna Live

Hakuna Live is a live video app from Hyperconnect, a Seoul-based video technology company. DII describes it, together with Azar, as one of two live video apps that Hyperconnect brought to Match Group.

Match Group acquired Hyperconnect for $1.73 billion in June 2021, which DII describes as the largest acquisition in Match Group's history. According to figures disclosed at the time of the transaction, Azar and Hakuna Live had 75 million users globally between them. Hyperconnect also brought proprietary AI translation technology that DII says can handle real-time conversations across 15 languages. Match Group does not report Hyperconnect revenue separately and includes it in its New & Emerging Initiatives line.

Hyperconnect's chief executive Linda Kim, who had led the company since its founding in 2014, resigned in June 2026, an exit announced through a post on LinkedIn. Her departure prompted DII to question how Match Group plans to use the Hyperconnect video and translation technology across its dating brands.
